You build furniture, kitchens, doors and windows from wood and other materials, from planning to installation.
What you do
Carpenters and joiners make furniture, built-in cupboards, kitchens, stairs, doors or windows in the workshop. You read plans, choose materials, saw, plane, mill and glue, often with computer-controlled machines. Then you install the finished pieces at the customer's home.
What you bring
- Enjoying working with your hands and with wood
- Good spatial awareness
- Precision, because in the end everything has to fit to the millimetre
- Good marks in maths and geometry
How the apprenticeship works
The apprenticeship takes four years. You work in the workshop and on installation jobs, go to vocational school and attend industry courses. There is also a two-year way in: carpentry assistant (EBA).
Tip: Feel free to bring a photo of something you built yourself to your application. That often says more than any mark.
And afterwards
After the apprenticeship you can train further to become a project manager, workshop manager or master carpenter. With the vocational baccalaureate you can study wood technology or interior architecture at a university of applied sciences.

Ob ein Beruf passt, merkst du am besten in einer Schnupperlehre. Ein paar Tage im Betrieb sagen mehr als jede Beschreibung.
