What you do

Painters work inside and outside. You cover things up, fill cracks, sand and prime before you paint, roll or spray. You hang wallpaper, decorate walls with special techniques and effects and protect wood, metal and facades from the weather. You often also advise customers on choosing colours.

• Care and clean work, because at the end you can see every edge
• Skilful hands and stamina
• No fear of heights, because you also work on scaffolding

How the apprenticeship works

The apprenticeship takes three years. You work on building sites and at customers' homes, go to vocational school and attend industry courses. There is also a two-year way in: painting assistant (EBA).

And afterwards

After the apprenticeship you can train further to become a team leader, project manager or master painter. If you want to do more design work, you can specialise in colour design or restoration.
