What you do

Commercial employees work in almost every sector: in banks, insurance companies, public administration, travel agencies, hospitals or industrial companies. You answer enquiries, look after customers, organise appointments and processes, prepare figures and work with many digital tools.

Depending on the sector and company, your daily work looks completely different. That is why it is worth doing taster placements in several companies.

What you bring

• Enjoying contact with people, on the phone, by email and in person
• Good marks in German and in foreign languages
• Being organised and reliable, even when a lot is happening at once
• Interest in numbers and in working on a computer

How the apprenticeship works

The apprenticeship takes three years. Since the reform you learn through practical skills, meaning real tasks from everyday work instead of just school subjects. You work in the company, go to vocational school and attend industry courses for your sector. If you want more school, you add the vocational baccalaureate.

And afterwards

After the commercial apprenticeship you can go in many directions: further training in marketing, HR, finance or sales, qualifications from colleges of higher education and, with the vocational baccalaureate, a degree at a university of applied sciences, for example in business administration.
