Elektroinstallateur/in EFZ
Key facts
- Qualification
- Federal VET Diploma (EFZ)
- Length
- 4 years
You bring electricity into buildings: cables, sockets, lighting, solar systems and smart building technology.
What you do
Electricians work on building sites, in new buildings and on renovations. You lay pipes and cables, install switches, sockets and lights, connect appliances and check that everything works safely. Solar systems, charging stations for electric cars and building technology you can control with an app are becoming more and more important.
What you bring
- Practical skills and an interest in technology
- Good marks in maths and physics
- Care, because safety comes first with electricity
- No fear of heights, and you like working outside and in different places
How the apprenticeship works
The apprenticeship takes four years. You work in the company and on building sites, go to vocational school and attend industry courses. If you would rather finish in three years, have a look at electrical fitter (EFZ).
Tip: With the switch to renewable energy, more and more specialists are needed. Anyone who trains as an electrician today has very good prospects.
And afterwards
After the apprenticeship you can train further to become a project manager, take the master craftsperson exam or specialise in solar technology or building automation. With the vocational baccalaureate you can also study electrical engineering.

Ob ein Beruf passt, merkst du am besten in einer Schnupperlehre. Ein paar Tage im Betrieb sagen mehr als jede Beschreibung.
